THE MP WITH NO SIGNIFICANT LEGACY AFTER GETTING MUCH MORE FROM THE CONSTITUENTS
Politics they say is a
dirty game but how dirtier can it be more than the story of the mighty voices
in Damongo NPP politics. When Lawyer Samuel Abu Jinapor, the then deputy Chief
of staff first appeared on the political arena of Damongo in 2017, all well
meaning NPP members and objective neutrals thought it was an appearance to consolidate
the gains made by Honorable Albert Diwura Kassim and his entourage consisting
Honorable Azumah Abass, Honorable Nana Kwame Aseda, Honorable Abu Jaja, Honorable
Saeed Muhazu Jegede, Honorable Ayuba and Honorable Musah Kusubari.
It however came as a
shocker to all when Lawyer Samuel Abu Jinapor instead of supporting Hon. Albert
Diwura,s bid going into the 2020 elections cunningly manipulated the Damongo
constituency NPP to choose him as the Parliamentary Candidate betraying Albert
Kassim Diwura in the process and destroying the once enviable and airtight bond
between Hon. Albert and his accomplices.
Prior to the 2020 general
elections, you (Hon. Samuel Abu Jinapor) made a solemn and firm pledge to write the
name of Damongo constituency in GOLD when elected as the Member of Parliament.
Since it is usual of you and NPP to forget your promises allow me to refresh
your memory on the promises you made to the constituents of Damongo.
- Ø I
will create employment opportunities for the youth of the Damongo constituency
- Ø Ensure
the perineal Damongo water crises is resolved by seeing to the execution of the
Damongo water project
- Ø Ensure
decent roads are constructed for the Damongo constituency
- Ø Ensure
women Empowerment
Your scorecard barely 4
months to the end of your tenure as MP for the Damongo constituency based on the
target you set for yourself are as follows.
- v According to a UNDP report titled “VULNERABILITY ASSESSMENT ON THE THREATS OF VIOLENT EXTREMISM AND RADICALISATION IN NORTHERN REGIONS OF GHANA’ the Savannah region which you are trying so hard to be the local champion is second with the highest youth unemployment rate of 38.2% among the 16 regions of Ghana with Damongo constituency contributing its quota to this alarming rate. The Damongo constituency under your tenure as a result of youth unemployment is now morally broken pushing some of the youth who constitute the active workforce of the Municipality into social vices such as Substance abuse (Tramadol, Alcohol, India Hemp etc.) and thievery just as the saying “The Devil Finds Work for the Idle Hands”. This increase in substance abuse can partly be blamed on your perchance for organizing needless alcohol packed Jamborees which only ends up intoxicating attendees leading to the unfortunate maiming or death of some.
- Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6 which seeks to ensure provision of portable water and sanitation facilities to all including the constituents of Damongo by 2030 is an area Ghana and other countries have subscribed to fulfilling. It was therefore welcoming though skeptical to residents of Damongo constituency when you led President Akuffo Addo and the late Yagbonwura Tuntumba Boresa I to mischievously cut the sod for the commencement of the Damongo water project on 29th July, 2020. This SCAM which is now 4 years old was accompanied by several assurances from key figures in the NPP government including the Driver’s mate Dr Bawumia, Hon. Saeed Muhazu Jegede, Hon. Cecelia Dapaah (then Minister for Sanitation and water resources whose deceased husband still sends her Dollars), Dr Clifford Braimah (MD for Ghana water Company) and your good self (Lawyer Samuel Abu Jinapor) to sustain the SCAM that Damongo constituency will get portable water flowing in their homes under your tenure. The glaring manifestation of your monumental failure to fulfill this solemn promise came when you had to resort to supplying contaminated water from the AGRIC DAM, the water not fit for watering the flowers and grasses in your house.
- It is no secret that the road network in the Damongo constituency is among the worst in the country despite the many privileged positions you occupy under this government. Whiles this is well known to you first hand because of your consistent voyages to communities within the Municipality to buy votes, you deliberately ignore these pressing issues because you are privileged to own a V8 vehicle. Let me once again remind you that the roads leading to the following communities are at an all-time deplorable
1.
Agric extension/Sori no.1/Sori no.2/Sori
no.3 roads
2.
Kpiri (Frafra 2&3) road
3.
Agric Settlement/Congo Road
4.
Broto/Janfaru road
5.
Mognori/Murugu road
6.
Kedendelempa road etc
It
will interest you to know that these communities are predominantly farming
communities that contribute immensely to the food basket of the municipality
and the country at large and therefore, giving a befitting facelift to these
roads will aid in movement of farm inputs, yield and services to and from these
communities creating sustainable job opportunities for many involved in the
chain.
v Finally,
your promise to ensure women empowerment has been reduced to the usual empty
sloganeering and politicking typical of the NPP government. Giving crumps to our
mothers and sisters to keep them reliant on your selfish benevolence so you can
easily manipulate them for your whims and caprices instead of sustainable
measures to make them self-reliant is a huge disservice to the vulnerable women
in the constituency leading to regrettable breakage in marriages of some women
in the constituency. In this regard I urge you to emulate the wise African
saying that “TEACH A CHILD HOW TO CATCH THE FISH BUT NOT HOW TO EAT THE FISH”
In conclusion, your rally
at Damongo Zongo organized on Saturday 10th August, 2024 fell short
of accounting to the constituents vis a vi your campaign promises which is a
testament of your Gargantuan failure to address the needs of the Damongo
constituency.
ü Your
tenure has also seen a break down in the previously cordial relationship
between NDC and NPP in the Damongo constituency resulting in clashes between
the two parties on several occasions
ü Interference
in traditional/Chieftaincy matters which deservedly resulted in a ban placed on
you by the highest traditional authority of the land, the first time a
politician has suffered this fate.
Keep in mind that Damongo
constituency is the reason you are the
1.
Member of Parliament
2.
Minister for lands and Natural resources
3.
Cabinet minister
4.
Care-taker Minister for Energy
However, you chose to
give no significant Development back to the constituency which raised you to
this high pedestal.
